The National Asian Pacific American Caucus of State Legislators, National Black Caucus of State Legislators, National Caucus of Native American State Legislators , and National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators issue this joint policy statement in recognition of the important role that broadband plays in all our lives.
We firmly believe that ubiquitous broadband access, adoption and use stand to be great equalizers in our society. As such we must ensure that Internet adoption and use via a broadband connection becomes engrained as a socio-cultural norm in our communities.
We believe this will amplify our ability to improve economic outcomes, increase educational opportunities, render quality healthcare both more accessible and affordable, and yield new avenues for the provision of better public safety and provide tools that lead to a cleaner environment. For our organizations and, most significantly, for the communities and people we represent, the broadband status quo is unacceptable.
